If you’re looking for a recreational marijuana shop that’s convenient to anywhere in Seattle, the answer is elementary: It’s American Mary. Seriously, you don’t have to be legendary detective Sherlock Holmes to determine that our amazing selection, knowledgeable budtenders, and speedy service have made us a must-stop shop for Emerald City cannabis fans.
But if you’re looking for something to investigate? We humbly suggest checking out the Seattle Sherlock Convention.
Given Seattle’s bookish, intellectual reputation, it’s hardly surprising that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s beloved, prickly character resonates with residents. Even our weather mimics what’s found in the ace detective’s notoriously rainy London! So fittingly, the Seattle Sherlock Convention has celebrated everything Sherlock, and if you call yourself among the faithful, you won’t want to miss this weekend’s meeting of the minds at the Broadway Performance Hall!
This year, the convention has a very special—if slightly surprising—focus, as all the speakers, panels and special guests will be focused on one seminal character in the Holmes universe: Dr. John H. Watson! Because while the uninitiated might regard him as a distinctly second fiddle, every version of the classic character has been a crucial part of Holmes’ success in solving cases, and he has a fascinating backstory that’s all his own.
As the current BBC series Sherlock—starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Holmes and Martin Freeman as Watson—made sure to highlight, the good doctor’s combat service plays huge roll in his ability to keep cool under fire, and his expertise in field medicine have saved his boss’ bacon on more than one occasion. And while there have been many incarnations of Watson over the years, truth be told, we love how the writers on the CBS series Elementary flipped the script and wrote the part for Lucy Liu.
Now, while Sherlock was famously fond of his pipe, your friends at American Mary think smoking a pre-roll of Green Crack might be a better bet for something as mentally stimulating as a gathering of detective fiction fans. But if you’re looking more for recommendations on concentrates, flower, or edibles to keep you elevated during the festivities, swing through and we’ll hook you up.
The Sherlock Seattle Convention runs October 21st to 23rd at the Broadway Performance Hall. For full details, head to the official site.
